Hey friends, I’ve been (infrequently) posting in my stories about cleaning and clearing out my yarn studio for a while. And I’ve been noticeably absent from all things social. But I’ve not said why.
It wasn’t time.
But now it is.
We’re preparing for a move.
A big one.
About 8,000 miles!
I’m not ready to give all the details, but ink has started to dry, as they say, and dates are being set. So I feel it’s okay to tell this much of the story.
I’ll share more as more becomes reality.

I’ve been going through my hundreds (yes, HUNDREDS) of knit & crochet magazines. Digitizing the patterns I want to keep and letting go of the physical copies. • I came across one from 1990 with my grandma’s handwriting in it. This is the pattern she used to make an afghan for me. My freshman year at high school. She made it in the school colors. • Just snapped this quick photo. 34 years later.  Go Bulldogs!  • What memories did this bring up for you? Do you have vintage pieces from your family history? I’d love to hear about it 🥰

Stitch – Rip – Repeat.
Trial and error is just part of the process with this crochet design gig.
Its hard to not feel frustrated at time lost to the frog pond. But I just have to keep reminding myself– ripping back a swatch is much less time than ripping back a sweater– ripping back a sample sweater is much less difficult than trying to figure out the cause of errors in a published pattern down the road.
And so, I rip. A lot.
In the picture is another trial and error process. I originally wanted this piece to be in a cotton/linen blend for summer… but it just didn’t give the feel I was hoping for. So I switched to an alpaca blend and I think it’s a much better look, more of what I wanted it to be.

So how do you feel about unraveling a days worth of stitching? Is it “just part of the process” for you? Or do you put your projects in timeout?

I still have so much more to learn in this yarny world.
But honestly, I’m okay with not knowing it all. With crochet, for example, I’ve been hooking yarn for close to 35 years and I’ve never made anything with broomstick lace. And while it’s lace is lovely and can create some beautiful fabric, I’ve not had an overwhelming desire to learn the technique (yet!).
I’d rather spend time getting better at what I already know.
I would like to learn to fair isle knit & brioche, though…. One day.

Okay, but first…. coffee.
I start my day with press of my favorite coffee (shout out the & their Houston blend). Some days I do a few house things, some days I get straight to work. I’m still trying to figure out this “empty nest” life.
I’ve been doing a lot of work on the website and trying to get older patterns updated to my new pdf layout and in some cases, restitching them in a more current yarn, while also trying to write and stitch new patterns.
It’s a balance that I have not yet figured out. But I am a perpetual WIP, i keep thinking that one day, I’ll have myself together.

Anyway, how about you?
Are you a hit the ground running type of person –or– do you gently ease into your day?

I only made it 1 day.
The Fiberuary challenge had great prompts and I had so much I wanted to do and then, well… So, I’m going to attempt to do more than just one day for the Meet the Maker. The topic for the day is “Brand origin” for me, that’s been a long process. I do believe I’m finally there. It //feels// right.
REVEL Yes, it’s part my name (Rebecca Velasquez), but it’s also the word itself. –enjoy oneself in a lively and noisy way

Hello, it’s me. I’m Rebecca Velasquez. Head lady of all things at Revel Crochet. I design crochet patterns with the occasional knit piece sprinkled in.
