We Speak

We Speak Founded in 2013, We Speak was the first domino in the movement for a truly equitable fashion world. A new industry top is forming.

We Speak is non-traditional model management that gives a voice to models who deserve to be celebrated, and a voice to the public who crave—and continue to drive—seismic industry shifts. We do this by putting models first and holding open conversations with brands around authentic representation. With a steadily growing nationwide presence within the U.S., we aim to shift the center of our industr

y. We work with those who seek to move margins, celebrate all bodies, and undo tokenism by lifting the voices of marginalized groups. One that promises authentic diversity, combats scarcity and all the “isms,” and one that has brands passionate about action.

Maria (she/her), for the x We Speak Disability Pride Collaboration!

"I was born with a chronic genetic blood disease. Diagnosed at 2 1/2 years old my parents were told I would not live past my teens. The basis of my disease is that I am missing the gene that makes healthy red blood cells so I receive blood transfusions- two pints every 14 days. I’m at my treatment now as I type. As I became a teenager I started buying cosmetics at my local store and Maybelline was one of the products I used....I remember the blush, how it gave me rosy cheeks and it made me feel so good that I did not look sick. People started saying to me “wow Maria you look wonderful “. It’s inevitable that my hemoglobin drops and I become pale so I make a little extra effort by applying make up, dressing stylish and it lifts my attitude...my whole mindset shifts and becomes positive. I call it the magic of makeup"

and We Speak were together in one room - and the day was MAGIC.

July was Disability Pride Month.

To celebrate the pride that permeates every corner of the disability community, Maybelline and We Speak co-produced a campaign. Together, we’re celebrating the diversity, resiliency, and power of the disability community, today and always. Over the next weeks, months, and–hopefully–years, you’ll see Maybelline celebrating disability pride with us.

This campaign collaboration with We Speak is not only an exciting milestone for the brand, but this is a huge leap forward for models with disability in beauty and fashion and a proof of concept for everyone who wants to show the true brilliance of disability.

Able bodied people are not the default. Accessibility is no longer an option–at We Speak, it’s required.

1 in 4 Americans have a disability. What if we celebrated them, rather than feared them? What if we redefined what disability looks like? What if we were all excited to invite disabled talent to set? What would it look like if a major runway show had more than one disabled model in their show? More than 5? What would it look like if every show confirmed 5 or more disabled models? What would it look like to shift the narrative and lift us all?

Check out We Speak’s and Maybelline’s socials over the next few months for empowered disability pride content.
