5 Quick tips for expressing breastmilk.

Expressing can be such an important part of your breastfeeding journey, whether you’re feeding, building a stash (for freeze-drying 😉), preparing to return to work, or simply expressing when you need to.

But one important reminder: if you are breastfeeding directly, expressing shouldn’t replace those feeds unless you have a reason to do so.

Your baby’s saliva plays an important role during breastfeeding. When your baby feeds at the breast, there is interaction between your baby’s mouth and your breast, which is thought to provide your body with information about your baby’s needs and help regulate the milk your body produces. This is called retrograde flow.

So, if breastfeeding is working for you and your baby, keep those direct feeds when you can.

And when you do express (for whatever reason) a few little things can make the experience more comfortable:

● Find your rhythm
● Check your fl**ge size
● Use warmth and gentle massage
● Keep hydrated and nourished
● Make yourself comfortable and give yourself time

Your body is doing something incredible. Be kind to it.

Its a big win to have that exstra left over freeze-dried breastmilk bags kept away for the winter or whenever they need a boost.

The taste is familiar to them so they take it well and you just blend it in that smoothie or sprinkle it over cereal. Minimal fuss and all the nutrients.
