The Mami Wata x event was a coming together of ideas and, most importantly, of people.

We always wanted our Muizenberg space to be more than a store. It’s a hub. A part of the community.

BTS with our CEO Imraan and world-renowned photographer on their recent trip to Angola, where they were hosted by the legendary Bizuka Barros of – the country’s first surf school.

Through a period of great change, one of the things that remains steadfast is Mami Wata’s commitment to supporting the incredible work done by Waves for Change (W4C).

African surf has the power to change lives. One of the ways that we hope to harness this power is by giving 2% of all sales back to African surf. An act of symbiosis. Afrosurfonomics in action.

Waves for Change is a non-profit organisation that provides mental wellness support, through the medium of surf and other evidence-based activities, to adolescents growing up in high-stress environments.

In addition to the 2,800 young people who attend the surf therapy programme annually, W4C also creates employment through surf coaching opportunities.

Muminah Cornelius, 23, has been at W4C since 2023, first as a coach, then as a training coach. She told us about her work, about how the swelling numbers of women attending the programme is changing the surf landscape, and about her own personal growth.

We’re proud to introduce the Muizenberg Location Tee.

Over the years, each of our stores has had its own location tee — from Rose Street in Cape Town to Abbot Kinney in LA — as a way of marking the places that have shaped us.

This one feels especially meaningful.

Our flagship store at 2 York Road sits in Muizenberg — a place many consider the centre of surf in Cape Town, and one of the most recognisable surf spots in South Africa. It’s defined by a long-standing surf culture built around the ocean, with a community shaped by the water that underpins it. A place full of character and history.

The Muizenberg Tee is our tribute to that.
Featuring our signature logo on the front and a playful depiction of the local scene on the back, it’s designed to reflect the energy, rhythm, and spirit of the place we now call home.
