💔 Doctors once feared he might not live past childhood.
Michiel Vandeweert made it to 28 and spent those extra years showing people how much life can still be lived.
Born in Belgium in 1998, Michiel was diagnosed as a young child with progeria, an extremely rare genetic condition that causes accelerated aging.
His family was warned that children with the condition often had very short lives.
But Michiel kept going. ❤️
He grew up loving football, gaming, friends and everyday experiences many people take for granted.
And eventually, he began sharing that life with others.
🥹 Across Instagram, YouTube and Twitch, Michiel built a community of more than 90,000 followers, posting about gaming as well as the reality of living with progeria.
At 15, he published his memoir, Ik Ben Michiel.
Years later, he and his younger sister Amber, who also lives with progeria, became the subjects of the 2026 documentary How To Be Alive: Amber and Michiel.
Sadly, Michiel passed away in August 2026 at just 28 years old.
His exact cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.
❤️ He lived far longer than anyone once expected.
But perhaps the most important thing about Michiel's life wasn't how many years he gained.
It was how much he chose to do with them.
