GOVERNMENT HANDS OVER 31 VEHICLES TO PROVINCIAL, DISTRICT HEALTH OFFICES
Today, Acting Minister of Health Cornelius Mweetwa officially handed over motor vehicles to institutions under the Ministry of Health to strengthen service delivery across the country’s health sector.
The Officially handed over 31 motor vehicles worth ZMW 27,625,344.61 (approximately USD 1,000,594.40) is a major boost to disease surveillance, outbreak response and programme supervision.
The Minister described the procurement supported by the Global Fund under the Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health component, as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening operational capacity at provincial and district levels.
He indicated that the allocation was based on detailed needs assessments submitted by respective programmes and independently verified by the Global Fund’s Local Fund Agent to ensure alignment with national priorities and compliance with fiduciary standards.
The following are some of the institutions that are beneficiaries of the motor vehicles:
1. LABORATORY SERVICES UNIT
✅ The Unit is expected to utilise the vehicles to reinforce the national specimen referral network, improve diagnostic turnaround times, enhance quality assurance oversight, and support maintenance of laboratory infrastructure.
2. THE NATIONAL MALARIA ELIMINATION CENTRE
✅ The Centre will use the vehicles to intensify field surveillance, case investigations, vector control supervision and data verification at district level, as Zambia advances towards malaria elimination in several provinces.
3. THE ZAMBIA NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE
✅ The vehicles will bolster outbreak preparedness and response, field epidemiology investigations and integrated disease surveillance supervision, enhancing the country’s ability to respond swiftly to emerging public health threats.
4. THE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (NHIMA)
