Webinar Highlights | Youth as Champions of Women Empowerment

We were honored to participate in another impactful webinar hosted by Youth Activits Global under the theme "Youth as Champions of Women Empowerment." The session brought together young leaders and advocates to discuss the critical role of youth in advancing gender equality and empowering women.

A key message from the webinar was that violence against women remains one of the greatest barriers to women's empowerment. Young people have a responsibility to refuse to normalize violence, speak out against gender-based violence (GBV) and create safe spaces where women and girls can express themselves freely. As highlighted during the discussion, silence protects perpetrators, while speaking up protects survivors.

The webinar emphasized that empowering women requires promoting leadership, equal opportunities, economic participation, entrepreneurship, mentorship and financial independence. It also encouraged the use of social media as a powerful tool for GBV awareness and advocacy, especially among young people.

Participants discussed practical initiatives that can strengthen women's empowerment, including mentorship programs for girls, career guidance and equipping women with digital skills that enhance employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Another important takeaway was that young people are key drivers of social change. With their innovation, creativity and influence, youth are well-positioned to challenge harmful stereotypes, promote respect for women's voices and decisions and advocate for a more equal society.

The webinar concluded with a powerful reminder that women's empowerment is not only a women's issue—it is a shared responsibility. By working together, young women and men can build communities where every woman and girl has the opportunity to lead, succeed and thrive.

Webinar Highlights | The Role of Men and Women in Promoting Gender Equality

We were honored to participate in another insightful webinar hosted by Youth Activits Global, focusing on the role of men and women in promoting gender equality.

One of the strongest messages from the discussion was that gender equality is not a competition between men and women—it is a shared opportunity for both to thrive. Progress is achieved not by asking who can do better, but by working together to find solutions that benefit individuals, families and communities.

The webinar explored some of the key barriers that continue to hinder gender equality, including harmful cultural and social norms, gender inequality and child marriage. Participants emphasized the importance of confronting these challenges through education, advocacy and collective action.

Another important takeaway was that gender-based violence (GBV) affects everyone. While women and girls are disproportionately affected, men, boys, families and entire communities also experience the consequences. Preventing GBV therefore requires the involvement and commitment of all members of society.

The discussions reinforced that gender equality is about creating a society where every individual—regardless of gender—has equal opportunities to contribute, lead, and reach their full potential.

Webinar Highlights | Women's Empowerment & Mentorship

We were privileged to participate in a Women's Empowerment and Mentorship Webinar hosted by Youth Activits Global, bringing together advocates and leaders to discuss women's rights, gender equality, leadership, entrepreneurship and the vital role of mentorship in empowering women.

A key takeaway was that true empowerment begins with freedom. Women must be free to know and exercise their rights, access opportunities and participate fully in economic and political life. The discussions also emphasized that mentorship is the bridge between potential and opportunity, helping women grow as leaders and professionals.

The speakers highlighted the importance of breaking barriers created by harmful cultural beliefs, strengthening policies that protect women's rights and increasing awareness on issues such as gender-based violence and women's leadership. Empowering women with knowledge enables them to advocate for themselves and contribute meaningfully to society.

Gender & SGBV Insights Zambia Hosts Inaugural Monthly Dialogue on GBV and Child Protection

Lusaka, Zambia | 17 July 2026

Gender & SGBV Insights Zambia successfully hosted the First Edition of its Monthly Dialogue Series, bringing together advocates, professionals and community members to discuss "Breaking the Silence: Understanding Gender-Based Violence and Child Protection."

The webinar created a space for open dialogue on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), child protection, safeguarding and the shared responsibility of individuals and institutions in building safer communities.

Panelists called for stronger sensitization and awareness campaigns, especially in rural areas where access to information on abuse remains limited. They also stressed the need to strengthen policies and legal frameworks to better protect survivors and improve access to justice.

A key concern raised was the low rate of reporting by survivors, often due to stigma and fear of community backlash. Participants encouraged greater awareness of reporting mechanisms and urged survivors to seek help without fear.

Child protection was another major focus. Panelists emphasized that child safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and noted the need for more schools to adopt safeguarding policies and train designated teachers to respond to concerns.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of recognizing signs of abuse, strengthening training in health facilities on the Children's Code Act and equipping media professionals to report child-related cases ethically and responsibly.

Participants commended the Zambia Police Service for its work in child protection and called for more safe spaces where survivors of GBV and children at risk can access support, counselling, and protection.

The dialogue concluded with a call for stronger safeguarding policies across education, healthcare, government, civil society, faith-based institutions and the media. Ending GBV and protecting children requires collective action from all sectors of society.

Arnel Chitundu is a communications professional, journalist and Gender-Based Violence advocate passionate about advancing child protection, gender equality, and community engagement through advocacy and strategic communication.

She is the Founder of Gender & SGBV Insights Zambia and currently serves as Communications & Media Lead for the Young Women in Leadership Global Fellowship. Arnel was awarded in recognition of her volunteer service and active support of the Child Protection Campaign, reflecting her dedication to child protection, community participation and youth-led advocacy.

As a panelist, Arnel will share practical insights on breaking the silence around Gender-Based Violence, strengthening child protection systems and empowering communities to become active champions for prevention, advocacy and lasting social change.
