Fibre is a natural or man-made (hair-like) substance which has higher length to diameter ratio. Fibres are of delicate structures and may have length to diameter ratio as 1000:1 or even more in some cases. This ratio further depends on the origin from where fibre is coming. The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) defines a ‘fibre’ as “a generic term for any one of the various types of matter that form the basic element of a textile, and it is characterized by having a length at least 100times its diameter” [ 518 more words ]
