COVID-19 has brought to light both our fragility and our strengths in various ways. Since COVID-19 hit us, we have had to face the harsh reality that security in employment is not always a guarantee, particularly in the industries and political climates that we are required to participate in order to have our voice.

But we have also had the opportunity to reflect on the importance of interdependence within our community. This difficult time has given us yet another chance to take care of the well being of others. We have witnessed and participated in this interdependence, from our team handing out masks to the workers and vendors and the unemployed in Kabul, to our friends and family around the world sharing and contributing to our Go Fund Me campaign.

In order to maintain this interdependence we must find unity. Together, we can defy the fashion industry standards and corrupt systems of oppression. Let us empower, protect and love each other.

So far, the support from our friends, family and many other people, has been an amazing show of community. We need to keep going! We thank you all for keeping this mission alive.

COVID-19 is threatening to close Zarif. Salaries, rent and material production have unfortunately been put on hold.

Zarif’s mission has been to build peace through creativity; providing secure incomes and safe spaces for artisans -both women and men- to create their art and craft.

This endeavor has created an environment where economic freedom, equity, an artistic expression are celebrated and allow the community to thrive.
