was one of the studio´s favourite and most challenging projects of 2015.
The assignment was to come up with viable uses for the flexible OLED technology, fresh from labs, and build working prototypes. The dronOLED concept takes notes from the automotive industry, where wing lights are used not only as a signal but also to strongly distinguish between brands. In this way companies such as , who will soon launch delivery drones, could use OLED technology to support their brand in flight.
We were given a limited budget and 10 days to realise our glowing drone concept and construct a flying machine with wings laminated with flexible OLEDs. Figuring out the through many failed and broken flying iterations, we finally found a wing form that worked with the OLED shape and reduced the weight of the mechanics and electronics section by using a soft leather skirt cover the body.
