August is now done, and what a month it was! I say I live a simple life, and I really do, but I’m also someone who throws myself into the deep end and strangely enough, it always seems to work out. Nothing like the thought of drowning to make you swim faster! It’s nice to have my feet back on the sand now, though.
It was so lovely to work a few Saturdays at our Auburn Village Scarlet Jones and catch up with the locals. We have beautiful stock there, and the new season pas de calais is going out this week. It’s such a gorgeous store, and we’re so excited that it’s going to be featured in The ShopKeepers new book, coming out in October. So exciting! Jono took such fabulous photos for the book. We can’t wait and yes, we’ll have the book in our stores!
A few of our lovely customers mentioned they thought we had moved from Hawthorn when the came in, but that’s not the case. It was only Albert Park that we are no longer in. Still very much in Hawthorn too. A big thank you to everyone who has welcomed us to our new Fitzroy store. In this often negative world, it has been so beautiful to feel such positivity from everyone. I think the vibe of Fitzroy needs to radiate out to all of Melbourne! We are all just one, but we do have the power to spread and multiply that energy.
I’m feeling the current move back towards small, independent stores and family-owned businesses, and away from large corporate chains, which is a good thing. It’s really nice to walk into a coffee shop, café or small grocer and be seen and appreciated. I do think this is the lure of independent small businesses, that sense of connection, community and being genuinely welcomed and appreciated. Let’s all keep that beautiful energy going. ❤️
