Two weeks to go.

In early September, T. Shirakashi and I will be travelling through Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne to meet a small number of clients for new bespoke commissions.

Every pair begins with an in person consultation, detailed measurements, and the design of a completely bespoke last. From there, the shoes are developed through a traditional fitting process before being made entirely by hand here in Australia.

We're also grateful to be hosted in Sydney by 'J.H.Cutler' and in Melbourne by 'Informale', whose commitment to quality craftsmanship makes them ideal partners for this collaboration.

If you've been considering commissioning a pair, now is the time to get in touch. Appointment numbers are limited, and once this tour is full there may not be another opportunity to meet with Shirakashi-san in Australia.

Further information and appointment requests are available via the link in our bio.

We look forward to meeting you.

Black brogued derby boots.

Formal enough to wear with tailoring, robust enough for everyday use. A style that has remained relevant because it simply works.

Built as bespoke should be: for one client, on one last, and made to be worn for many years.

Every pair starts with a detailed record of the feet it's made for. That record becomes the foundation for the last, the patterns, and ultimately the finished shoes.

The parts that matter most are often the ones that are never seen.

Once the sole is attached, this work disappears beneath the foot. It will likely remain hidden for many years, only revealing itself again when the shoes eventually return for a resole.

Five weeks out from the T. Shirakashi x Josef Selway Bootmaker Australian trunk shows, we wanted to introduce ourselves and share what each of us brings to the work. Swipe through to see some of the ideas that shape our approach to bespoke shoemaking.

For my part, I work within a traditional bespoke process while integrating digital tools where they genuinely improve the work. 3D scanning, modelling, and digital last development help me better understand the foot before the work returns to the bench.

Rooted in the traditions of British shoemaking, Shirakashi-san has specialised in handcrafted boots since the beginning of his career. The country boot pictured here has become one of the defining house styles of his workshop.

During my training under Shirakashi-san, one principle was repeated again and again: balance and form.

In my view, that is what sets his work apart. Every decision is considered in relation to the whole, from the proportions of the last to the pattern, stitching, and finishing. It is this pursuit of balance that gives his shoes and boots a quiet cohesion. Every detail has its place.

We look forward to welcoming clients in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne this September.

These two see everything I do in the workshop.

The rabbit from Japan reminds me to keep moving forward and stay agile in my work. The Australian wombat reminds me to stay grounded and connected to honest materials.

Quiet reminders that my work sits somewhere between cultures: Japanese discipline, Australian character and English tradition.

What quiet reminder sits on your bench or desk?
