Last brush before they leave the workshop.

From the first measurements to final delivery there’s roughly 8 months lead time in a pair like this, so the last few moments are always a bit intense. Polish, laces, double‑check, and handover.

If you’re near Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne and you’ve been thinking about starting the true bespoke journey, feel free to get in touch and we can see if it’s a good fit (no pun intended).

Pattern maker, last maker, tree maker, boot maker. The roles change daily, but the authorship remains the same. Staying a one-man-band allows me to stay obsessed with the details of every single stage, from the first line on paper to the final polish.

If the workshop walls could talk they'd tell you of a rumour circulating amongst such beings... Something about a trunk show tour in September.. Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane?

I can neither confirm nor deny of course, but never say never 🤫

The Yokohama influence.

Three years ago I was sitting across the bench from .shirakashi_bootmaker at his Yokohama workshop.
He taught me that a boot isn’t just about the fit, the materials or the construction, it’s about the spirit of the partnership between maker and wearer.

Taking those lessons back to my Brisbane bench every day.

The last comes first.

Each pair begins here. Some clients go on to have multiple lasts, refined over time for different styles.

This is bespoke.

A pleasure to make and a special pair to finish.

Developing patterns directly on the last.

The paper toile reflects the mean forme, allowing lines to be worked out in three dimensions before anything is cut in leather.

It makes the transition to the final pattern far more precise.

Some of my fudge wheels and edge irons.

The centre handle still holds a stain of edge ink from another time, another bench.

It makes me chuckle to imagine the chaos that followed.
