No Lights No Lycra Alice Springs NLNL is on Thursday nights at Red Hot Arts. An hour of freestyle dancing in the dark. You be you. Move like you want to! Don’t fight it, FEEL IT!

No Lights No Lycra provides a safe and healthy atmosphere for you to express yourself through a connection with music. Are you seeking out an environment where you can dance without losing a shoe to a sticky dancefloor mid-groove? Or maybe just wanting to be able to dance and express yourself without the ‘absolute joy’ of a complete stranger insisting on grinding up against you under those ‘heaps

sexy’ flashing lights? Started up by two dancers from Melbourne, No Lights No Lycra is a dance initiative that encourages people from all backgrounds and demographics to indulge in music that makes you want to move! The events produce an atmosphere of exhilaration whereby a dark room allows you to immerse yourself in self-expressive movement, free of teachers, technique and public view. It doesn’t matter whether you’re doing it for exercise, relief or just a fun time, NLNL aims to make dancing accessible for everyone! Location: Red Hot Arts

After much thought, we’ve decided to close the chapter on No Lights No Lycra Alice Springs.

We want to say the biggest thank you to every single person who came along over the years . Whether you danced every week, popped in once out of curiosity, helped spread the word, or supported quietly from the sidelines. You helped create something really special: a safe, joyful space where we could move freely, let go, and just be. Thank you as well to all of the hosts over the years who created both excellent playlists, and a safe space to express ourselves.

Watching this community grow, seeing familiar faces return, and welcoming new ones into the dark has been such a privilege. We are so grateful for the laughs, the sweat, the awkward moves, the big feelings, and the beautiful energy you all brought into the room.

While this is goodbye for NLNL in Alice Springs, it’s not goodbye to dancing. Please keep seeking out spaces that make you feel alive, and most importantly…

keep dancing in the dark. 🖤
