Growing up in Atherton many many years ago, our main street was filled with little independent shops. You’d spend hours wandering from one store to the next, saying hello to familiar faces and discovering something different in every window.

Today, there are far fewer of those little bricks-and-mortar stores left.

Every time a small local business closes, our town loses a little more of its character, its personality, and the people who make it feel like home. Once those shopfronts are gone, they’re incredibly hard to bring back.

We’re so lucky that Atherton still has a wonderful collection of independent businesses. Whether it’s a boutique, café, gift shop or any other local store, every purchase makes a difference. Supporting local isn’t just about buying something—it’s about investing in the heart of our community and helping keep our main street alive for future generations.
