It all 'really' started when I was pregnant with baby no. 2, but knitting has been in my blood from childhood. 'Little Nanna' (who was left handed when I was right) spent hour after hour teaching me the finer points of knitting. She told me of her mother who would knit 'blanket squares', sew them together and donate them for sale at the ENT hospital in Melbourne. I started knitting garter stitch s
quares. I didn't have the skill (or confidence) to sew them together, so I'd parcel them up for my friends mother to sew and donate. I was thrilled when I found out my squares had been made into 3 blankets, all of which had sold and made the hospital desperately needed dollars. From then on, I persevered with learning the finer points (seaming, knitting in the round, short rows and even lace knitting). Thank you Youtube!!! Crochet, on the other hand, is a slightly different story. 'Little Nanna' (and I call her that because she's easily 4 foot nothing...my term of endearment for her), again she was left handed, while I was right, tried in vain to teach me crochet, all to no avail. We gave it up as a bad joke, and stuck to knitting childhood scarves!!! After a conversation with a friend and her learning that I'd love to learn how to crochet, she set me up with a lesson with her gorgeous mum. After almost a full day spent with her, I came home knowing (with very specific handwritten notes), how to produce a double crochet AND a granny square blanket. Youtube took over yet again. Thank you to Tam and Bev for getting me 'hooked'. So that's it and here we are, I'm a mum who loves wearable knits for babies and children...my secret is out!!!
