And just like that we are officially entering the beginning of the growing season again 🎉🎉🎉
That means fertilising, increasing watering frequency and maybe even adding some new season bling to your garden in the way of flowering plants.

It's an exciting time of the year and usually marks fresh projects for the outdoors in preparation for the warmer months ahead.

There is something so satisfying about a freshly clipped Westringia....

When talking natives in the garden, people still think of the wild, open, leggy, messy look they can become when they are planted and never to be touched again.

BUT,
Natives respond really well to the occasional prune, and often only require it 2 or 3 times a year to keep them nice and dense.

DID YOU KNOW?
The more you prune, the denser they stay, therefore the more blooms you'll get?

Natives are really versatile for a whole range of garden aesthetics, they can be as casual or as formal as you want them to be.
This shot shows a more structured look.

A LGS original product - Boston Ferns in goldfish bowls.

Growing in potting mix, ferns respond well to living out of glass bowls. Unlike pots with drainage holes, the bowl holds the excess moisture allowing the plant's roots to reach further down when thirsty.

Why ferns?

Ferns naturally grow in damp or boggy environments. In the home environment they require more frequent watering than other houseplants. I discovered this was the only method of planting I could keep them alive (no, thriving) in my own home.

Only one catch ☝️

Don't drown your plant.
Just like other plants, ferns can also be victims of root rot.
So examine the glass before watering, and only give enough water until you start seeing it trickling to the bottom.

These look so elegant sitting on a counter.
Add a macrame hanger and they're bathroom perfect 👌
