Please phone or text me Monday to Friday
8am to 6pm to arrange a time. Please use the following guidelines to prepare your quilt for longarm quilting.
• Make sure you have cut all loose threads from the quilt top. They can get caught up while quilting, resulting in damage to your quilt and can be seen throu
gh the quilt once quilted.
• Iron your quilt top and backing well. You don’t want creases quilted into your quilt. Press the backing seams open as they will lay flatter.
• Your backing fabric must be a minimum of 4-5” larger than the quilt top on all 4 sides. This is required, as the quilt is loaded onto a frame and then pulled tight with clamps on either side. If not enough fabric the quilt will not be entirely quilted to the edge of your quilt. I would hate for my machine to hit a clamp as that means I am out of action for up to a month while the machine is getting fixed. The quilt top will generally stretch 1-2” more than you originally measured as it is attached snuggly on the frame. Sheets are not recommended as backings, although I have used sheets in the past without too much drama.
• Check your quilt and backing are square. Double check your backing and trim if required. Remember that you may loose some inches trying to square it up, so be sure that you still have enough if you have to trim any off.
•To avoid any pleats, and tucks during quilting, please attach your borders correctly. Any excess fabric within the quilt top and backing cannot be quilted out, and tucks may occur when quilting. This is unavoidable, I will do my best to minimise tucks and pleats.
• Do not leave any pins in the quilt top (except for a pin marking the top of the quilt if quilt is directional) as they will damage my machine. Please leave off any embellishments until after your quilt has been quilted as these can also damage my machine.
• Your wadding/batting must be a minimum of 4-5” larger than the quilt top on all 4 sides. Be wary of cheap waddings. They sometimes stretch and quilt unevenly.
• I will return the quilt trimmed 1" on all 4 sides unless advised otherwise. I will return all excess backing/batting over 2". Thank you for taking the time to prepare your quilt. The results will be worth it!! Kind Regards
Melissa
