🌍 CASTLE HILL 🌍

🏗️ PROJECT UPDATE | FRED CATERSON RESERVE

Great to be back on site representing VD&D Engineering, meeting with the development team to review the current construction progress and coordinate the next stages of this major sporting fields upgrade for The Hills Shire Council.

This is a significant community infrastructure project at Fred Caterson Reserve, Castle Hill, and one we’re proud to be providing structural engineering services for. Our structural documentation covers the proposed light poles, retaining structures and new amenities building.

The overall development includes 2 new full-size 100m × 70m training fields, 1 new 100m × 70m main playing field, a new amenities building, associated retaining and civil infrastructure, and 8 major sports lighting poles.

A major part of our engineering package is the structural design of the high-mast lighting foundations, including 32m-high poles to the main field and 30m-high poles to the training fields, supported on Ø1200 reinforced concrete bored piles founded into sandstone bedrock.

Site meetings like this are an important part of delivering projects of this scale — reviewing what has been completed, resolving construction matters with the team and making sure the upcoming works are properly coordinated before moving into the next stage.

From the drawing board to construction on site — it’s always rewarding seeing our engineering designs becoming reality.

🌍 LILLI PILLI WATERFRONT 🌍

NEW PROJECT AWARDED | WATERFRONT 🏡🌊

We’re excited to announce that VD&D Design & Project Management has been appointed as the Structural Engineers for this incredible waterfront residence in Lilli Pilli, NSW.

Set on the shores of Great Turriell Bay, this grand project involves extensive alterations and additions to an existing multi-level residence, transforming the home while working with and around significant portions of the existing structure. The architectural documentation includes demolition, extensions and structural set-outs across multiple levels.

Our structural engineering involvement will include the careful assessment, design and integration of the new structural elements with the existing residence — one of the more challenging and rewarding aspects of major alteration and addition projects.

With a waterfront location, significant level changes and a complex existing structure, this is exactly the type of project where architecture and structural engineering need to work hand-in-hand to bring the design vision to life.

We’re proud to have been entrusted with the structural engineering for this impressive residence and look forward to working alongside the project team as 'Splendido' progresses from design through to construction.

‼️ ABSORPTION TRENCHES ‼️

Another successful site inspection as this project continues to progress smoothly.

Today we inspected the front section of the absorption trenches, marking the final stage of the external civil stormwater works.

Due to the site's challenging conditions and highly sandy soils, the stormwater management system was designed with two absorption trenches (infiltration systems) to effectively manage on-site stormwater runoff.

The project is now nearing completion, with only the driveway and landscaping remaining before handover.

A great effort by the builder and all consultants involved in delivering another quality project.

‼️ DUAL OCCUPANCY – FIRST FLOOR & ROOF TIMBER FRAMING INSPECTION ‼️

Construction is progressing well on our dual occupancy development, with our structural engineering team completing detailed on-site inspections of the first floor and roof timber framing prior to the next stage of construction.

Our inspection confirms that the structural framing has been installed in accordance with the approved structural documentation, while verifying that all bracing, tie-downs, straps, bolts, connectors and fixings comply with the relevant Australian Standards and manufacturer requirements.

At this stage, we are confirming:
✔️ Timber framing members are installed in the correct locations and orientation
✔️ Strap bracing and structural plywood bracing are installed as detailed
✔️ Tie-downs, bolts, anchors and framing connections comply with the structural design
✔️ Structural tolerances are within acceptable limits
✔️ Roof framing is adequately restrained and braced
✔️ The structure is capable of performing under wind, gravity and lateral loading in accordance with the design intent

Thorough structural inspections throughout construction are essential to ensuring the building is safe, compliant and built to the highest standard, providing long-term performance and durability for the future occupants.

Our Building Design and Project Management teams successfully delivered the design, consultant coordination, and documentation for this commercial tenancy fitout, achieving full compliance with the NCC and all relevant Australian Standards.

The proposal included additional office spaces and internal modifications. Following lodgement with the City of Sydney Council, Development Approval (DA) was issued in just 20 days.

‼️ Sporting Fields, Amenities Building & Sports Lighting Development ‼️

Construction is well underway on our new sporting fields development for The Hills Shire Council. The project comprises two full-size training fields, one main competition field, a new amenities building incorporating change rooms, public amenities, a canteen and storage facilities, together with sports lighting infrastructure throughout the complex.

With the bulk earthworks now complete, construction has progressed to the amenities building, where the ground floor reinforced concrete slab is currently being formed and reinforced in preparation for the concrete pour.

Our structural engineering team has been on site carrying out detailed inspections of all reinforcement, including edge beams, internal beams, slab thickenings, step-downs, starter bars, hold-down bolts, and other critical structural elements.

These inspections verify that all reinforcement has been installed in accordance with the approved structural documentation, specified concrete cover requirements have been achieved, reinforcement detailing is correct, and the slab is fully prepared for a successful concrete pour.

At this stage, our inspections are focused on confirming:

✔️ Reinforcement has been installed in accordance with the structural drawings.

✔️ Concrete cover and reinforcement spacing comply with the relevant Australian Standards.

✔️ Beam reinforcement, slab thickenings, step-downs, and embedded elements are correctly positioned.

✔️ The slab is ready for concrete placement and long-term structural performance.

This marks another significant milestone for the project, achieved through the strong collaboration between the client, builder, contractors, and our structural engineering team.

We look forward to seeing the slab poured and progressing into the next phase of construction. 🏗️

‼️ Raft Waffle Pod Slab – Single-Storey Dwelling Construction Update ‼️

Construction is progressing well on our new single-storey residential dwelling, with the team currently completing the ground floor raft waffle pod slab.

Reinforcement placement, beam cages, drop edge beams, internal beams, and formwork are now being finalised in preparation for the concrete pour.

Our structural engineering team has been on site carrying out detailed inspections of all reinforcement, including edge beams, drop edge beams, internal beams, step-downs, slab thickenings, and other critical load-bearing elements throughout the slab.

These inspections verify that all reinforcement has been installed in accordance with the approved structural documentation, specified concrete cover requirements have been achieved, beam layouts and reinforcement detailing are correct, and the slab is fully prepared for a successful concrete pour.

At this stage, our inspections are focused on confirming:

✔️ Reinforcement has been installed in accordance with the structural drawings.
✔️ Concrete cover and reinforcement spacing comply with Australian Standards.
✔️ Beam cages, slab thickenings, and step-downs are correctly detailed and positioned.
✔️ The raft slab is ready for concrete placement and long-term structural performance.

Another major milestone has been delivered through strong collaboration between the builder, contractor, and our structural engineering team.
