Our glorious Rachel in her stunning Alice Dress ❤
(repost) Rachel Ryan When I saw a tester call go out for the Alice top and dress pattern recently I couldn’t put my name in the hat quick enough.

I love the style of Designer Stitch

I may have let out a little squeal of delight when I found out I’d been chosen 🙈😂

Now, I am someone who finds instructions difficult to understand and I normally have to read them a number of times to ‘see’ what is being asked of me. This dress has some details that I’d not tried before - pintucks and binding for neckline and sleeves, so it took me a while to work it all out and get sewn up - mistakes were made!

However, it was so worth it 💖

Those pintucks 💗

The fabric - I totally fell in love with this cerise pink soft slub viscose that has a slight stretch when I saw it in my local fabric shop Cloth of Gold Fabrics , and I bought a fair amount of it.

I had already sewn up a pair of trousers but I knew that it would make the perfect swishy dress and I wasn’t wrong, did I make life harder for myself choosing to use this fabric, yes I did, but was it worth it…..oh yes!

This dress has been a godsend in the heat we’ve been having, it’s so light and airy

I always adore seeing what all the other testers make, it’s lovely to see other people visions of the same pattern, if you’d like to take a look at them all, here is the pattern link

The Alice dress length has been a standout among our pattern testers — floaty, breezy, and beautifully wearable in natural fibres. Whether sewn in linen, voile, chambray, or double gauze, the dress moves with softness and ease.

Testers styled their dresses for warm days, holidays, and relaxed weekends. The A‑line silhouette skims the body without clinging, while the bound neckline and gentle pleats add a polished, handcrafted finish.

Why testers loved the dress version:
Light, breathable comfort.
Beautiful movement in natural fibres.
Easy to dress up or down.
A silhouette that feels effortless and flattering.
A quick, satisfying sew with a professional finish.

One of the best parts of testing Alice was seeing how different fabrics transformed the pattern. Linen gave it a breezy weekend feel, cotton lawn made it crisp and polished, voile added floaty movement, and double gauze brought dreamy softness.

Alice was designed for natural fibres — and our Danielle proved just how beautifully it works across textures and weights.

Which fabric would you choose for your Alice?
