We’ve been conditioned to throw out things the second they’re not perfect. A broken zipper? But new pants. An irreversible strain on your white shirt? Throw it out. Scratched sunglasses? Get a new pair.
Nobody questions it anymore. We’ve just accepted that broken means done.
But a seamstress can replace a zipper. Dye covers that stain. And new lenses means perfectly good frames get another few years of life.
We already live in a world of overconsumption. Buying new things isn’t the problem, we all do it and that’s fine. But broken doesn’t have to mean the end. Most things we own can be repaired, restored or refresh if we just stop and think before tossing them.
Start somewhere. Even somewhere small. It does make a difference.
