TOPCOURT precinct structure for the AO 2026.

Designed as a large-scale temporary stage and crowd space, the build combines heavy-duty black steel trusswork with layered blue shade sail systems that completely transform the atmosphere underneath. From wide angles, the structure feels massive. Up close, the detailing starts to stand out.

Integrated rigging throughout the roof system supports lighting, audio, LED screens and full stage production infrastructure, all engineered to operate reliably across long summer days, heavy crowds and constant movement.

One of those builds where the public experiences the atmosphere, but underneath it is a serious amount of planning, fabrication and coordination holding everything together

The Organic Tree Shade Structure at the AO 2026.

Instantly recognisable, loved by patrons, and now a familiar marker in how people move through the Australian Open.

A place to pause.
A place to meet.
A landmark within the event experience.

Temporary structure. Permanent impression.

1573 Arena (Show Court 2) at AO 2026

Every year, Pattons installs the temporary grandstand shade structure that wraps the outside of the stadium seating giving real shade to this outdoor court when it matters most.

This one’s a bit special: a cantilevered shade structure that actually goes in (not out) compared to most grandstand builds. It takes around two weeks to install, then less than a week to remove once the tournament wraps.

The best part? When it’s packed down, you wouldn’t even know it was there. We designed a patching system with recessed anchor sleeves that get plugged clean finish during the off-season, then unsealed and bolted back on when AO returns.

Built to perform. Built to disappear.

AO2026. Built at scale. Delivered with a permanent standard.

Across the Australian Open 2026 precinct, Pattons delivered temporary event structures and tensile shade systems built to support movement, manage flow and create comfort.
From high-traffic walkways to seated viewing areas and large-span truss roofs, every structure was engineered and installed with precision.

By day, shade and relief. By night, lighting, atmosphere and energy.

Three structures. One standard.

Across the AO2026 precinct, each build serves a different purpose, but all deliver the same outcome.
Spaces that are considered, functional, and fully utilised.

From high-traffic walkways to seated viewing areas and large-scale shade structures, every element is designed to support movement, manage flow, and enhance the overall experience.

By day, they provide structure and relief.
By night, they hold atmosphere, lighting, and energy without overwhelming it.

This is where design meets ex*****on.
Not just creating structures that look the part, but building environments people naturally move through, gather in, and stay within.

Proud to have built the iconic TOPCOURT structure at AO2026 🎾

A custom-designed temporary steel truss roof system spanning the entire Centre Stage precinct, its standout feature is the organic, curved perimeter truss, with a flowing wave-like form that gives the space a distinctly festival-forward aesthetic.

Bright blue shade sail panels stretch across the inner truss grid, keeping crowds cool while reinforcing the AO’s signature colour palette. White petal-shaped decorative elements hang from the perimeter, adding a playful finishing touch.

The main grid is supported by black steel columns, with a full rigging infrastructure for stage lighting, speakers and screens, engineered, fabricated and installed to perform under serious pressure. Day after day of crowds, heat and movement.

Introducing the Pattons IC8. An 8m inverted conic structure purpose-built for temporary events, waterproof, architecturally considered, and engineered to deliver exceptional shade through the geometry of the conic itself.

A new addition to the Pattons range, available to hire or purchase as an asset for your event. We installed some recently in the F1 paddock and other precints and the results speak for themselves. More shots to come.

Lakeside. One of the biggest shade structures we’ve built at the Grand Prix 2026, and every square metre was designed with one thing in mind: how do we make people feel when they walk under it? Shade is the brief. Delight is the goal.

Northern Carpark at the AO, in evening mode.
Good food, good energy, and a space people actually want to spend time in.

This is what good event infrastructure should do.
Not just stand there and look nice, but help create an atmosphere people can settle into and enjoy.

Oval 9 at the AGP.

A clean, open structure designed to give people space to stop, sit, eat, and reset in the middle of a high-energy event.

It looks simple.
But getting something like this to feel effortless takes serious planning, precision, and coordination behind the scenes.
