REGIONAL RELAY FAQ’s
Some helpful ‘RELAY’ information to pass onto our new and existing parents and athletes!
⭐️What are Summer Regional Relays?
The Summer Regional Relays relates to a friendly relay and team-based competition event between Little Athletics Centres in each Region. Aspley Little Athletics Centre is in the Met North Region, along with Arana, Strathpine, the Gap, Redcliffe, City North and Bracken Ridge Little Athletics Centres.
Essentially, each Centre allocates athletes into teams, and they compete against teams of other athletes from within the Met North Region of Little Athletics Centres, in a bid to qualify for the State Relay Championships!
Please note that this event includes both track and field events and is not just running relays.
⭐️How do the field events work?
For the field events, the field teams comprise of the total number of nominated athletes per each age group per event. Our athletes will enter the specified field events and compete against all other athletes. When the event is completed the top two (2) Aspley athletes will be renamed Aspley Team A, with the next two (2) named Aspley Team B, and so on. The top two (2) teams overall in each event, will qualify for the State Relay Championships.
⭐️How far do they run?
The events are:
U6 – are not able to participate in this event
U7 & U8 – can compete at the regional event but cannot progress to State Relay Championships.
- 4 x 70m
- 4 x1 00m
U9 & U10
- 4 x 100m
- 4 x Swedish
U11 - U13
- 4 x 100m
- 4 x Medley (200m, 200m, 400m, 800m)
U14 - 17
- 4 x 100m
- 4 x Swedish Relay (100m, 300m, 200m, 400m)
In the track relays for those not able to be placed in a same age relay team can be placed in a Combined Age relay team (U9 - 10, U11 - 13 or U14 - 17)
⭐️Will there be training, my child doesn’t know how to pass a baton?
Our current training and competition program will ensure that all athletes who turn up to training and the weekly competition, should have had the opportunity to receive training and/or experience with relay events and how to pass the baton, and work with their nominated relay team on a number of occasions between now and Saturday 11 November 2023.
⭐️So what team is my child in?
Our Coaches will be allocating the children into teams based upon their weekly Saturday competition meet performances and/or knowledge of the athletes ability and experience. We will try our very best to put every child into a team.
⭐️This sounds awesome, but when is it?
Saturday 11th of November 2023 at Arana Little Athletics Centre.
Nominations close Monday 16th of October 2023! Don’t miss out for the only team-based event on the little athletics calendar!
