The first little signs of Spring. Morning walks in the still chilly dawn bring new little pops of joy every single day, such a busy season. I wander with a steaming mug of tea, waiting and watching to see what new delight has unfurled overnight.

I have started writing stories on a platform called Substack. It enables me to write much longer pieces than I can on other social media platforms, and also offers me the possibility of actually making some money from my writing down the track. That would be the dream!

For now I will continue to share images of my walks and adventures on here, but the words will primarily be on Substack. You don’t have to download the app, you can just tap the link in my bio to read the latest yarn but it does offer a wealth of stories tailored to your interests and I can recommend. I would dearly love you all to support me on this new venture. My posts in the past all earned me a living, inadvertently, by promoting sales of my vintage wares. With this side of the business now closed there is no income.

I share what I do because I genuinely want everyone to be able to experience the beauty and the serenity that Nature provides. I know not all of you have access to the incredible landscapes that I do, but I hope that by sharing my thoughts you will find glorious little moments wherever you are. I have had some incredibly touching messages over the years from people who have changed how they live their lives after taking on board my Stories from the Forest Floor. I don’t claim to have all the answers to a happy life, but I do know that Nature does 🌲

The calendar flips over tomorrow to reveal a new season but little signs of Spring have been quietly appearing over the last few weeks. Slightly longer days, pink tinged dawns, Red Browed finches perfectly colour coordinated with the Flowering Quince, bees busily stocking up on pollen, the Cherry Plum blossoming against a wall. I’ve been busy in the garden weeding and pruning the last of the roses, but making sure I take time to just sit and enjoy the sunshine. No point in building a beautiful garden if you don’t take time to enjoy it. I’m loving sitting by the fountain on the North side of our house. A previously unused and unloved area that was the old driveway, now a flower garden and a beautiful spot to bask in the late Winter sun. Another favourite spot is under the Beurre Bosc pear tree. In Winter the bare branches allow the sun to filter through, soon it will be covered in Spring blossom and by Summer it will cast a cooling dappled shade. Winnie always jumps up and sits next to me on the old stone bench that I placed under its spreading boughs. Lovely little moments 🌸

I don’t know if it’s the eclipse energy but I haven’t slept much this week. Racing thoughts at 3am, highs and lows, should I’s, shouldn’t I’s, up one minute down the next. I had plans today but we’ve had solid rain since the early hours and it’s very damp and drizzly still, so I’ve given myself an extremely rare breakfast in bed. Porridge with brown sugar, a boiled egg & soldiers, a cup of tea (with sugar because I’m sick of denying myself this simple little pleasure). I’m feeling more like myself already. One more chapter of my book and I’ll rug up and take Ferg for a misty, damp Forest walk and all will be right with my world 🌲🤎

I’ve just spent the loveliest week with my Sister The Little Crooked House
and her boys. They made the big trek down from Qld and it was just so nice having them here. Annual family bonfire done. Lots of morning teas and brunches at Coffee House 138 in Maffra which we walked off with gentle Forest strolls and a few more strenuous hikes. Did the Peregrine Lookout track at Blue pool and met the friendliest Husky dog who parked herself in Beth’s lap. Had a quick fly fishing lesson at Lake Glenmaggie while my nephew tried out the Blores Hill Mountain Bike Park and spent the final day clambering over rocks and soaking up the serenity of The Channels at Boisdale. We were blessed with the most beautiful weather while they were here and my mad brother in law even went for a swim at The Channels! Never enough time to do all the things we had planned and we waved a sad farewell this morning. It’s always so quiet when everyone leaves and I’ve spent the day slowly packing up bungalow in preparation for some finishing touches that we didn’t have time to get done. Always good showing visitors around our beautiful area, sometimes forget just how lucky we are!
