FEAST!!! Add colour and stir well! These four girls came for a private lampshade workshop yesterday and had so much fun! Everyone opted for a drum shade and we ended up with 3 x 43cm diameters and 1 x 38cm diameter! The finished shades looked great… I’d love to see them in their new homes. ❤️

I gave a short tutorial for one of the participants on how to create a join if your fabric isn’t wide enough. See last photo. Stripes made it extra easy!

This was fun to make!!! Vintage to the core! My formula =
• a vintage cotton tablecloth from my stash
• an old lampshade frame
• some bias cut stripe fabric

This shade is unlined with the struts covered with the striped fabric. I “fussy cut” the tablecloth to make use of my favourite parts of the design. The fabric was attached to the frame using a combination of sewing and glueing and then the bias strips were attached using fabric bond tape (for the vertical strips) and glue for the top and bottom edges.

This shade has no front and back and looks great viewed from every side as the panels are all different.

It is loud and colourful and iconic… what’s not to love about it?

Some Liberty London canvas, a whole lot of trims and fringing and a big dose of happy! 😊😊😊
I made this in March and can’t believe it didn’t share it! The project was a makeover for a very tired vintage soft shade. It arrived faded, grubby and torn. Look at it now! Such a fun little shade that headed off to be a pendant in the laundry of a 100 yo Queenslander outside Toowoomba.

An offcut from a chenille bedspread and a vintage sewing pattern = a new dressing gown for my 5yo granddaughter. This chenille is so soft and cuddly and perfect for a little girl who is obsessed with fabric. Margaux had well and truly outgrown her other dressing gown that was made years ago by my Mum for Margaux’s older sister.

It’s been a while since I sewed a garment from start to finish in one sitting and I really enjoyed the process.

The pattern was Size 5 and I made it with no alterations. The finished garment is a bit big and will probably see her through several winters. Yay!!

The simple pleasures of life…. sewing for a loved one, reusing fabric that’s much too good for the bin, and reliving habits taught to me by my mum who demonstrated the true value of a great upcycle!

Our largest lighting project yet! And here the pendants are installed in a new building in a private school. You may remember the photos of these lined up on the driveway. All 31 of them. What a job. So many moving parts to get this over the line!

Fresh off the work table. We are making a number of these custom pendants for a Brisbane Thai restaurant. This fabric was chosen by the designer from our stock. It’s called Pimalai. Doesn’t the gold fringing really complete the look?
