Spring may still be around the corner, but allergy season can creep up on you if you're not prepared 🌼

For many people, increased pollen levels can lead to itchy, watery and irritated eyes.

A few simple habits can help minimise symptoms:

β€’ Wear glasses outdoors to help reduce pollen exposure πŸ•ΆοΈ

β€’ Wash your hands regularly and use lubricating eye drops if recommended by your optometrist πŸ’§

β€’ Avoid rubbing your eyes if they become irritated, as this may worsen symptoms

Taking a few simple precautions now may help you enjoy the change in seasons with greater comfort 🌳

It's Contact Lens Health Week, and we're highlighting a few best practices to support healthy contact lens habits.

A surprisingly common question we hear is whether it's okay to sleep in contact lenses πŸ’€

Unless your optometrist has advised that your contact lenses ARE suitable for overnight wear, it's generally not recommended to sleep in them, even for a short nap.

Sleeping in contact lenses can increase the risk of dryness, irritation and infection.

If you've accidentally fallen asleep wearing your lenses, don't panic. Remove them as soon as practical. If your eyes feel dry or uncomfortable, lubricating drops may help before attempting lens removal.

If you continue to experience discomfort or have difficulty removing your lenses, contact your optometrist for advice.

This Daffodil Day, we join the conversation around cancer awareness and support while shining a light on eye cancer πŸ‘

Although eye cancer is less common than many other forms of cancer, it can affect people of all ages and may not always present noticeable symptoms.

One of the most common forms of eye cancer in adults is ocular melanoma, which usually develops in the middle layer of the eye, known as the uvea.

Regular eye examinations can play an important role in monitoring eye health and identifying changes within the eye that may require further assessment.

This Daffodil Day, take a moment to learn more about eye cancer, support those affected by cancer and prioritise your eye health.

This Contact Lens Health Week, we're highlighting a few simple ways to support healthy contact lens wear.

A common question we hear is whether it's okay to wear contact lenses while swimming or showering 🌊

For healthy contact lens wear, it's best to avoid exposing your contact lenses to water whenever possible, including while swimming, participating in water sports or showering.

Water in oceans, pools and spas may contain microorganisms that can increase the risk of eye infection. 🦠

Exposure to water may also cause contact lenses to adhere more tightly to the surface of the eye, making them uncomfortable and more difficult to remove.

If you regularly swim or participate in water sports, speak with your optometrist about the most suitable contact lens options for your lifestyle.

This week, we shine a light on diabetes and eye health for National Diabetes Week.

While diabetes is often associated with blood sugar management, it can also affect eye health. Diabetes is associated with an increased risk of several eye conditions that may affect vision over time.

Many diabetes-related eye conditions can develop gradually and without noticeable symptoms in their early stages.

Regular eye examinations are an important part of monitoring eye health and detecting changes over time.

This National Diabetes Week, take a moment to learn more about the connection between diabetes and eye health. If you have questions about your eye health or vision, speak with your optometrist.
