This ‘64 SG Special at some point in its life was converted to a stop bar with a harmonica bridge. It was then restored some years ago to its original specs by of Sydney. It now sports a Nickel & Dime string retainer finally giving the Maestro Vibrola the break angle needed to help it work correctly.

If you have been looking for a solution for your Maestro Vibrola then here it is. The Nickel & Dime string retainer will give you that all important break angle over the bridge. You will send in increase of up to 5 degrees, improving playability, tone and sustain.

The break angle of the strings over the bridge of this Firebird was at 10 degrees to the body before installing the NDSR-1. It now sits at 15 degrees providing better playability, tone and sustain.

A stunning ‘Non-Reverse’ Firebird III fitted with the Nickel & Dime string retainer. This bird has never played better. The break angle was so shallow with the original retainer that the high E string was almost flat from the bridge to the Vibrola.

The Nickel & Dime string retainer next to an original Marstro Vibrola string retainer. The NDSR-1 retains the look of the original but all the dimensions have been changed to provide the increased break angle of approximately 5 degrees. It was important to keep the look of the original unit and create something that can easily be fitted onto an existing Vibrola so that no modifications to the guitar would be required.

Our String Retainer being CNC milled from solid brass. We are proud to be in partnership with Brisbane based manufacturers Industrial Tool Service. Not only are we able to produce a high quality product, but we are also helping keeping manufacturing alive and well in Australia. They did an amazing job with all of the intricate dimensions and angles of what turned out to be a complex job.
