Talwalpin (Cotton Tree) 🍃
Known for its bright yellow hibiscus flowers, Talwalpin has long been valued for both its practical and medicinal uses. The flowers have been used in healing practices, while the strong inner bark fibres can be twisted and woven into string and nets.
Aunty Sonja Carmichael’s design honours Talwalpin (Cotton Tree) and Kowinka (Red Mangrove), two native plants of Quandamooka Country. Inspired by Oodgeroo Noonuccal’s story from Stradbroke Dreamtime, the artwork celebrates the enduring connection between people, plants and Country.
