For some, a new season means needing to update the wardrobe with new stuff and spring cleaning the wardrobe of all the things they don’t wear. A continuous cycle of spending.
But for those of us building a sustainable wardrobe, it just means creating new looks for a new season :)

While I’m easing back into work and (still) getting over bad jet lag, I’ll share some of my older content. Lots of new followers too, so always nice to put a face to the name!

Ukiyo has changed a lot since those early days but some things haven’t changed. It’s still just me. I do have 2 seamstresses who sew for me from their homes but Ukiyo ‘headquarters’ is just me. I get a giggle sometimes when I receive messages like, ‘Ukiyo Team’, or ‘Ukiyo Marketing Department’. Hi, that would be me!

If I was 20 years younger I might have wanted to turn Ukiyo into something bigger but I’m really happy with where it’s at. I have honestly the loveliest community of followers and customers. It has been so wonderful to hear from you about how wearing your Ukiyo pieces has made a difference to your life. I especially love too hearing that my ranting in this space about shopping more consciously has actually changed how you shop. I never imagined that when I started this little venture.

For those of you who are thinking about starting up your own little business, hard work, doing the stuff you don’t want to do (like making videos!) and connecting with people is the key!

So much I am wanting to do this week and just not enough time so bear with me reposting on socials while I get back in to the groove of things :)

Holidays are fantastic but gee it’s hard when they finish ☺️

Here’s a few things I loved about the trip and what I’m excited about for Ukiyo.

As is normal for me after a holiday I’ve had time to think and now have way too many ideas in my head so I’ll be seeking your help to rein myself in.

This week has been a lot of this 😳

Working so hard to get your orders out. Please don’t worry that I’m off for a holiday, one of my seamstresses will be working through orders, they’ll just take a little longer, a week or so longer than usual. I will endeavour to email each of you before I head off with an update.

Merchant & Mills have been super duper busy which is so great to see but does mean fabric restocks have taken longer than usual. This is slow fashion! You can’t be in a hurry.

I have made a few mistakes too which is stressful for someone who takes everything to heart and doesn’t like to stuff up. A little business that has a sudden burst of growth is wonderful but also nerve wrecking.

You’ve all been amazing, so supportive and understanding , thank you 😌

You probably think I have a heap of dresses to reach for ..

But the reality is I’ve been so busy I actually haven’t had time to make myself new dresses plus I have my favourites which I am quite content with.

But saying that, it is nice to go away with something new. So I did manage to make a new Charleston in the poolside stripe because I am really testing the strength of the seams and buttons on my sugar dreams Charleston.

Getting excited….

So many of you fell in love with Autumn plaid 🍂 and as such I ran out.

There really is something special about this linen, in texture as well as colours.

Do not fear, more autumn plaid is coming in August ☺️
