Made me tear up a little 🥲
I received a lovely thank you for writing Mothering our Boys message from a mum of three boys and she shared this story that is too good not to share. I cried good tears.
"When our eldest was 4, his Kindy teacher warned us he would ‘drown’ in the school system. She wanted us to repeat him. My husband and I were stoked. We didn’t need any persuasion! Anyway then his twin brothers were born at 27 weeks. He coped so well with their arrival and his own change in family dynamics. About 8 months after bringing them home from hosptial, despite having a wildly loving relationship with his brothers, I walked into him smacking one of them so so so hard on the back, repeatedly. I screamed at him, WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU LOVE YOUR BROTHER ! And he replied calmly , ‘Mummy, he was choking’ 😳 our son, at five years old, had saved his brothers life. He had fish hooked a bottle top out of his mouth, then was slapping him on the back to make sure he was ok. I found the bottle top next to the baby, with saliva and blood on it, and the baby was still a tinge of blue.
That event changed my life. Any doubts that other parents had put into trusting your kids abilities was gone. The relationship between all three boys is so damn tight, it makes my heart sing to know that even once my husband and I are long gone, they will be best friends, and be able to work through any issues as they know that their love for each other is so valuable.
