Being a mermaid really is the best job in the world. And now the part nobody puts on Instagram.
Water up your nose. Permanently cold. A tail heavier than my suitcase. Hair that salt water did not forgive for years. And income that comes and goes as it pleases when you have no fixed contract.
I am not telling you this to ruin the dream — the opposite. I have made my living from mermaiding for over ten years. But not because I look nice in a tail. Because I built a whole business around it: the mermaid school, placing mermaids for events, international contracts on cruise ships, and these days the retreats with International Retreats for MerPeople.
That is the part nobody told me back then. The tail is the beautiful bit. The business is the bit that carries you.
And my hair is a story of its own. I am happy to tell it — after years of wigs and extensions I finally found something that works for me.
If you are thinking about getting into a tail yourself, just ask me. These days I would rather pass on what I know than be in the water all the time myself.
