Opened in 1992, Byron Surf Shop was located on the corner of Lawson and Fletcher Street, which was then the Old Cordial Factory building. In the early 90's the surf market was dominated by mainstream surf labels, however, Byron Surf took a different approach and saw the potential for alternative surf labels to grow. Started as a little surf ''shed'' with an unconventional product mix, Byron Surf Shop gradually gained local and tourist support. In the year 2000 the store temporarily moved to Byron Street while the site was being re-developed. In 2002, the store re-opened at its current and original location with a new fitout and bigger shop space. Through the decades, with all the economic downturns and market pressures many local surf stores in Australia ceased, as multi-national companies and chain stores took control, monopolising the surf market. However, with the determination to provide the best products and service possible, Byron Surf Shop has grown organically through good times and hard times. Today, Byron Surf Shop is recognised as one of the most authentic locally owned surf stores in Australia. Byron Surf Shop stock a wide range of surf / fashion products ranging from surf and skate hardware to clothing and accessories.
