And finally after several weeks chatting with a Facebook seller, and getting spare parts from another Facebook seller, I have myself a singer 99k, the slightly younger 1950s edition of my singer 99 (1930s), with one crucial difference, it has a reverse lever. The 99 only sews forwards, so you need to turn whatever you are sewing to do a back tack, or tie off your ends.
I've done a video of before and after spraying the insides over with wd40 to get the joints moving smoothly.
Its case was plastic, and a bit wobbly, so I got another 99 machine missing its motor, but it had the case, and the bobbin housing cover, and the instruction manual, for this machine. It also had a light, which after trial and error I was able to attach to the electrics correctly so it even has a light.
All for around $150.
I plan to use this one, like I've been using the 99, on the end of my cutting table sewing wedding dress hems, for the massive dresses I really need the table to hold.
I'm also looking at ordering a walking foot for it to avoid slippery fabrics moving around under the foot while I'm moving the dresses.
