I’ve decided to call these patterns ‘Floral Tartans’ as it’s a beautiful tartan layered with bright tropical flowers the pink pop of the Lily and the bright blue/purple of the Iris with a sprinkling of frangipani’s. It’s a lovely contrast of straight stripes against the gentle curve and flow of flowers.

This tartan alternative is charming and would bring joy to any space or sanctuary in the home whether as furnishings, cushions or curtains, or would be a statement fashion piece or heart-warming stationary set.

The Floral Tartans come in three different colourways and brings with it just a little touch of luxury. I plan to develop a mini-collection based on this pattern, watch this space.

This floral tartan pattern may be printed on fabric for any number of products from tea towels to oven gloves, aprons or on other surfaces such as serviettes, picnicware, ceramic plates or even fine china tea sets. It’s exciting to imagine and I hope to bring a little touch of luxury and delight to your product range increasing sellability and bringing enjoyment to your clients.

I took the opportunity to print this pattern onto wallpaper samples and was impressed with the result. I think a feature wall would look spectacular. My intended purpose was to make notebook covers with my newfound knowledge of book making. I think this pattern would look great on stationary too.

I was presented with a challenge for this pattern, it needed to be bidirectional. This was not something I had considered before now, but I came to understand that during the manufacturing process a garment with a scatter design wastes less material than one with a single direction. Once that point had been established it made sense. So, I set about making a clump of flowers that would look the right way up, either way around, using both Lily and Iris to provide a strong up direction.

It’s always interesting and helpful learning aspects of the garment assembly process, especially as I am not a sewer, so that I may be able to feed this knowledge into my design process when it better suits an intended surface, like a garment.

I had fun sketching out my motifs and tend to enjoy the detail of small things like the dragonfly wings and the little jagged tips of the fan palm leaf. It’s so much fun creating the motifs and then deciding upon a pattern that will excite and give so many products a touch of elegance.

I can imagine such products as home décor with beautiful cushions, curtains, lamp shades, bed linen, upholstery and more.

If you would like to license this pattern, I would be happy to discuss this with you and welcome you to contact me.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this delightful tartan florals pattern. I was exploring florals on a typically golf themed design so played around with plaid tartans and argyll diamonds to finally settle on this tartan for which I have created a number of colourways. This was a commissioned pattern of artwork and I’m very happy with the outcome. I love tartan and I love florals and the combination really has worked quite well.

I can imagine beautiful stationary covered in this pattern. I’ve just recently taken an interest in book binding so am quite drawn to the prospect of covering some diaries and notebooks in this pattern and some of my other patterns too.

I often love to start a pattern with a bunch of flowers in a vase it’s so beautiful to fill the house with flowers and draw on the inspiration. That coupled with my love of tartan was dramatic as I play in a pipe band and tartan is my thing.
