2024 Millinery Australia Design
Award. Theme: Pearl.

Mutiara is the Indonesian word for Pearl which just so happens to have the word “Tiara” in it, and “mu” means “yours”, so this hat names itself as “Your Pearl Tiara”.

Pearls are especially prominent in the sea-going cultures of Sulawesi, Lombok and Bali.

So, the inspiration for this Tiara is to create a fascinator suitable for weddings and high glitz occasions, with all the glamour of Pearl. I made all the leaves and flowers by hand from resin, interspersing them with Pearls and Crystals.

I wanted to create a sense of the undersea, with an intricate, Coral and Pearl aura, suitable for a Princess of the Sea, for whatever big day the occasion may be.

I am proud to be presenting my piece for the Annual Design Award inspired by the theme PEARL, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Millinery Australian.

Mutiara is the Indonesia word for Pearl. It also just so happens to have the word “Tiara” in it and “mu” means “yours “, so that hat names itself as “ YOUR PEARL TIARA “
In Indonesia, we use Tiara a lot in traditional dress, for such occasions as weddings. Pearls are especially prominent in the sea-going culture of Sulawesi, Lombok, and Bali.
