European Union bans destruction of unsold clothes and shoes starting July 2026, pushing fashion brands to change. 🇪🇺♻️

A new rule in Europe will reshape how the fashion industry manages unsold goods. From July 2026, companies will be prohibited from destroying unused clothing and footwear. The measure targets waste, especially in fast fashion, where excess stock is often discarded instead of reused or repurposed.

This shift compels brands to rethink production and inventory. Rather than disposal, they will be expected to prioritize recycling, donation, resale, or smarter production planning. The result could be more responsible manufacturing and a smaller environmental footprint tied to surplus garments and materials.

The decision reflects a broader move toward sustainability and accountability. It draws a firm line that usable products should not become waste. For many, it points to a future where industries balance profit with responsibility and build systems that value resources instead of discarding them.

Because of the low quality of some fast fashion retailers and our commitment to ending fast fashion, this is why we may not give exchange credit for items from Kmart, Shein etc. BUT because they're already in production, we sell or give away any that come to us, to try and give them a second life so their production doesn't go to waste and straight to landfill.

Fast fashion is a huge industry, contributing a whole lot to climate change.
