When you are installing a car seat it is always best to use any available anchors or latches that you can to make sure that it is as secure as possible. That being said, if you do not have extra anchors, if the latch strap is damaged, or if you are dealing with strap issues, you can install without the belts and straps that are typically included. You can use the seatbelt that is in the car to install your car seat if you are not able to get the latches and belts.

If there’s one thing new parents realize pretty quickly, it’s that a lot has changed about child rearing since they were kids. Almost half of parents say that they are baffled by the current laws on child car seats.

Two-fifths also feel that there isn’t enough information on how to safely fit a car seat and another two-fifths struggle to even select the correct one for their child.

More than a fifth of parents and grandparents who take children in their car don’t use child seats, new research has revealed.

Of the 605 parents and grandparents surveyed by the RAC, 22 per cent admitted they didn’t put children in a car seat every time when transporting them, with 16 per cent saying they neglected to do this very rarely, three per cent failing to do it sometimes and another three per cent saying they didn’t put children in child seats regularly.

If your child’s weight exceeds the maximum allowable weight recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for LATCH installation, then the child seat should be installed using the vehicle seat belt and, if available, a top tether, still keeping in mind the vehicle owner’s manual and the child safety seat manufacturer’s instructions," according to the NHTSA.
