Spacebound ‘Need Space’ Launch – Friday 15th July 6-9PM 🍻🍷🚀

I found this note I wrote to myself at the end of 2020. It seems like a good way to launch this new Spacebound release ‘Need Space’.

“The second half of this year I fell out of love with making things, it sucked. I can’t remember a time over the last 15 years that I felt like this. I needed space. I’ve been overwhelmed by the idea of creating more ‘stuff’ for the sake of creating ‘stuff’. Even if there is direction and purpose is it enough to justify more. Can I justify making more things? Does anyone need more? It stemmed from me grappling with the concept of opposing forces present in many aspects of my life. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of opposites, yin and yang, peaks and troughs, space and bound. It seems they are inevitably intertwined, sometimes it feels like a tug of war, and it’s often hard to tell the difference between winning and losing. I prefer to think of these forces as a dance with no end. One does not exist without the other, because without it there is no perspective, no innovation, no art, no love. My wrongs create my rights, my rights turn into wrongs an infinite loop of learning. What we take we must put back, in another shape or form.“

Although it has taken far longer than I’d expected to release these products and I continue to struggle with the idea of making and selling new products in a world of overconsumption. The much needed space allowed me to realise the importance of continuing to evolve and experiment with different processes. Spacebound is an ever-evolving work in progress.

This Spacebound release is a range of experiments into yarn processing and fabric production. The outcome is a range of garments made from 100% Recycled hand-woven fabric, a process that uses very little power, almost zero water and no dyes.
