Aussie Facts: On November 19, 1941, the HMAS Sydney, a Royal Australian Navy cruiser, was lost in battle against the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran off the coast of Western Australia. While this was a tragic event in Australian naval history, it is also a significant story of resilience and bravery, remembered as a key part of Australia's World War II heritage. Memorials now stand in Geraldton, WA, honoring those who served on the Sydney.
