Located in the Lakes Entrance Region, Metung Hot Springs has a unique geographical connection between mountain and sea on the banks of Lake King where three alpine rivers culminate.

As you experience the wellness offerings of the hot springs, the adopted design approach brings into focus the distinct natural environment which is intrinsically linked to the passage of water and to highlight the passage of time.

The design approach centres on preserving the recognisable identity of the original Pelaco building, with the rooftop sign remaining a defining marker within the broader precinct. The refurbishment draws on the building’s character, carefully stripping back later layers of plasterboard and dated fit-outs to reveal the original industrial fabric beneath.

COTTAGE HOUSE
Cottage House is shaped by the movement of natural light. A north facing double height courtyard introduces sunlight deep into the plan, bringing brightness to the living spaces and strengthening the connection to the garden.

The new addition is defined by dark metal cladding and perforated screens that soften light while maintaining privacy. A restrained palette of recycled brick, blackbutt timber, carved granite, floating steel and black mirror gives the interiors a robust, industrial character.

Habitat 3121 is conceived as a vertical landscape for Cremorne, addressing the lack of ground-level greenery by distributing planting and outdoor space across the full height of the building. Rather than treating landscape as an add-on, it is embedded into the section, with each level given access to terraces, gardens and external rooms that extend everyday use outdoors.
