Day 2 with Sufiyan and Rehan Khatri was nothing short of incredible. ✨

After the joy and energy of Day 1’s block printing, everyone arrived with smiling faces, renewed excitement and a real eagerness to dive into the world of natural dyeing.

We feel incredibly grateful to learn about Ajrakh — not only the intricate processes, techniques and patience behind this beautiful craft, but also the rich history, culture and stories that have carried it through generations.

Sharing this knowledge together, as a Fremantle creative community, made the experience even more special. There was so much curiosity, connection, colour and generosity in the room.

Thank you Sufiyan and Rehan for sharing your craft, knowledge and heritage with us. We’re leaving Day 2 feeling inspired, humbled and deeply grateful. ❤️ To all participants, now friends. Thank you.

And the journey isn’t over yet! There are still workshops happening next week, so if you’ve been wanting to learn, connect and experience Ajrakh for yourself, there’s still time to join us.

Day 1 of Sufiyan and Rehan Khatri’s AJRAKH workshop, and what an incredible beginning. ❤️

Block printing is so much more than ink, fabric and intricate patterns — it’s heritage, patience, skill and community coming together. Today was a beautiful reminder that when knowledge is shared hand to hand, craft continues to live on.

Here’s to learning, creating and keeping the tradition of AJRAKH alive — together. ✨

The Anjelms Project welcomes Sufiyan and Rehan Khatri for two weeks of workshops.

Today was their day one — making pastes, preparing resists, and getting everything ready for Saturday. We’re really looking forward to sharing their work with our Fremantle community and spending these next two weeks learning, making and being together.

Welcome, Sufiyan and Rehan. We’re very glad to have you here.

WHY THIS WORKSHOP IS ABOUT MORE THAN PRINTING
Behind every piece of Ajrakh is a story of resilience.
For Sufiyan Khatri and his family, Ajrakh is far more than a craft. It is a way of life.

After the devastating Gujarat earthquake in 2001 destroyed their village of Dhamadka, the Khatri community lost not only their homes but also the water source essential to creating Ajrakh textiles. Rather than allowing centuries of knowledge to disappear, the community came together to rebuild.

Together, they established a new village—Ajrakhpur—a place dedicated to keeping this extraordinary tradition alive.

Since then, Sufiyan has worked tirelessly to ensure that Ajrakh doesn't simply survive, it thrives.

Through innovation, education, and collaboration, he has helped create meaningful employment for around 140 artisans, proving that traditional craftsmanship can sustain communities while remaining true to its roots.
When you join this workshop, you're not only learning how to print with hand-carved wooden blocks.

You're learning from someone who has devoted his life to protecting a cultural legacy, supporting artisan livelihoods, and sharing knowledge with people across the world.

That is what makes this experience so rare.

Join us this August and become part of the continuing story of Ajrakh.
🤍 Tickets are limited and available now via anjelms.com.

ONE WEEK TO GO!

In just seven days, master artisan Sufiyan Khatri arrives in Fremantle to share the ancient tradition of Ajrakh—one of the world’s oldest living textile crafts.
This reel offers a glimpse into the intricate process you’ll experience over two immersive days: hand-carved wooden blocks, natural dyes, resist printing, indigo, and the stories and knowledge that have been passed down through generations of the Khatri family.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn block printing, explore natural dyeing, or connect with a craft that is deeply rooted in culture and identity, this is a rare opportunity to learn directly from a master practitioner.

More than a workshop, it’s a chance to slow down, make with intention, and experience a living tradition firsthand.
Only one week until Sufiyan arrives, and places are limited. We would love to share this experience with you.
