❌️HER ONLY MISTAKE WAS BEING OLD.💔

One of the cruelest things we can do is forget that dogs age.

We expect their bodies to cope the way they did at two years old. We load them into the back of utes, assuming they'll keep their footing through every corner, bump and brake.

But a 10-year-old dog isn't a young dog anymore.

Their balance isn't what it once was.
Their joints ache.
Their reactions aren't quick or adaptable.
Layla paid the price for that.
She was thrown from the back of a ute, suffering injuries from the fall.

Then came the part that's even harder to comprehend.

No one came back for her.
Not after an hour.
Not the next day.
No one cane looking for a family member of 10 years.

Imagine being ten years old. Confused. Injured. Waiting for the only people you've ever known to realise you're gone... and hearing nothing but silence.

She was taken to the pound and had to recover from her injuries in a concrete pen.

Despite everything, Layla is still gentle. She still wants to walk beside people. She still seeks human company. She still believes someone is worth trusting.

We don't know exactly how she ended up in that ute. We don't know whether it was negligence, ignorance or something else entirely. But we do know this:

Senior dogs deserve better.

If your dog is travelling in the back of a ute, ask yourself whether you're making that decision for their safety... or simply because it's convenient.

Layla has already paid the price.
Let's make sure another old dog doesn't.

Layla is looking for a home that will respect her for being vintage, not treat her a disposable. She is arriving to Brisbane next thursday so we are looking for a foster to adopt who can collect her.

She is good with other dogs, prefers quiet ones.
