New bub on the way? My top 5 tips for swaddling like a pro!
As a midwife, I see a lot of new parents wanting to learn the art of the swaddle. A good swaddle can work wonders for calming a fussy baby and promoting restful sleep.

Here are my top 5 tricks to master the swaddle and become a pro in no time:

1. Use the right fabric -look for a lightweight, breathable muslin wrap. This will keep your baby comfortable and avoid overheating.
2. Warm it up (optional). A pre-warmed swaddle can be extra soothing for newborns. Just toss the muslin in the dryer for a few minutes on low heat (make sure it's not too hot!).
3. Diamond in the rough - lay the muslin flat in a diamond shape. Place your baby on their back with their head above the fold.
4. The wing trick: Take one side of the muslin and bring it snugly across your baby's chest. Tuck the corner under their back for a secure fit. Repeat with the other side.
5. The bottom line - fold the bottom of the muslin up towards your baby's belly, leaving enough room for their hips to move comfortably. Secure it with a final tuck.

Remember, a good swaddle should be snug but not too tight. Your baby's legs should be able to move freely.

Bonus tip! Practice makes perfect! Don't get discouraged if it takes a few tries to get the hang of it.
