Amanda Stevens, Owner Director of GRAVEL & GRACE.
“I was raised on Edith Downs, our family sheep and cattle station located in the McKinlay Shire, near our small rural town Julia Creek, Queensland. I honestly feel lucky to have lived the childhood I had, a life living and working on the land with my family, in a community second to none. I ventured away from the McKinlay Shire and my love for the land in my 20s and have tried my hand at various professional fields since, from early childhood education to retail, and have had an extensive career in real estate and property management. Of late, I have had some friends and professionals ask “Why?” Why do you want to own a retail shop in Julia Creek? Well I think for those who don’t live and breathe our community, it may be difficult to understand. But simply for me, the answer is, I am proud to. I am proud to work effectively to provide an amazing service to the people who know your story- the community who are there for you tomorrow. I would like to thank Aileen and Norm Gabbert for the opportunity to continue to run and further develop a business, which has been providing a much needed and appreciated service to the McKinlay Shire and beyond, for many years. Thank you. When the doors of Gravel & Grace open I hope you will enjoy the comfort of the familiar products, combined with the answers to your recent requests and the new vision I have injected into McKinlay Shire’s local department store. First and foremost I look forward to servicing our local community and foresee Gravel & Grace being another great reason to put Julia Creek on the map. Thank you for your support and understanding during this transitional phase and I look forward to seeing you all at Gravel & Grace. I’m Home.”
