Life around Neighbour has been very fun lately 🥰

We dont jump on all the insta trends, but we loved this little reminder of how far we've come, the things we are proud of, the community that has welcomed us so warmly and the people we have already fallen in love with.

Six months of small town living in Laura and three months of Neighbours doors being open! We cant wait to see what the next six months brings!

Winter in retail - she's a tad quiet, every shelf has been dusted a hundred times, and we have way too much time on our hands to think about whats next for Neighbour 😅

From the very beginning, we've wanted Neighbour to be more than somewhere you pop in to buy something. We want it to be somewhere you linger over a coffee, bump into friends, bring the kids, discover something new and feel part of the community.

So we'd love to know, what would you like to see more of at Neighbour? Community catch-ups, more local makers, kids activities, maybe somewhere for a friday arvo platter and wine?

There's a few things we have in the works, and we cant wait to share with you all - but we'd love your ideas! Because after all... Neighbour is built for the Neighbours ❤️

Ok, we know... we've already been here a little while 🤭

But between renovations, unpacking boxes, making coffees and settling into this beautiful little town, we never really got the chance to celebrate properly.

So we'd love to finally do that—with our neighbours!

The best part of opening a small business wasn't the business.

What's it like opening a small business in a small country town?

Honestly? If you thought it might be a little lonely - you couldnt be more wrong.

People don't just shop with you. They cheer for you.

They tell their friends to stop in when they're passing through. They make a point of grabbing their coffee from you because they know every sale matters. They choose local because they want to see local businesses survive.

They invite you to community events before you've even learned everyone's names.

They stop in for a Friday afternoon wine just to check how you're settling in and make sure you're feeling welcome.

They walk past and ask how the renovations are going, genuinely interested in the old house they've watched shelter different families and live different lives over the years.

When the weather turns cold and you've forgotten to organise firewood, somehow a load appears at your door.

They tell you about the hidden gems in town—the Pilates classes, sound healing sessions, wellness spaces, artists, makers and businesses quietly doing incredible things behind the scenes.

They drop off plant cuttings from their gardens. Homemade slices. Fresh baking. Ice cream. Produce. Little gifts that never come with any expectation of something in return.

They share your posts, recommend you to visitors, and celebrate your wins like they're their own.

Before moving here, we knew we'd be gaining a community.

We just didn't realise how quickly it would feel like home.

Of course, opening a business is hard work wherever you are. But there is something pretty special about doing it in a small town.

People don't just become customers.

They become neighbours. 🤎
