Residential and multi-residential electrical maintenance

We recently completed a full maintenance and compliance visit at a Toorak property: underground garage LED lighting, external garden and security lighting, smoke alarm testing, exit and emergency lighting checks, and a switchboard safety inspection. All tested and certified to current Australian standards.

Called out first thing Monday to a rental in Springvale

A property manager rang us about an electrical issue at one of their rentals, so we got a team on site first thing to find it. Turned out to be loose cabling running into a safety switch at the switchboard.

We made it safe, tested the safety switches to confirm they were tripping properly, and re-tightened every connection across the board, all tested to current Australian standards before we left.

If you own or manage a rental, a quick safety check catches faults like this before they turn into an after-hours emergency.

Boronia renovation, stage two.

A few weeks ago we shared the electrical rough-in on a major home renovation in Boronia. That stage is done, and we're now onto the part that sets the whole home up: the switchboard and mains upgrade.

We're taking the property from single-phase to a full underground 3-phase supply, run in from the street, with a new switchboard and individual RCD/RCBO protection on every circuit. Next comes the supply cut-over, connecting the new meters and 3-phase mains with the network.

Why 3-phase during a reno? It gives the finished home the headroom for induction cooking, ducted heating and cooling, and an EV charger down the track, and it's far cheaper to do now than to retrofit later.

Two visits. Several faults. Every single one solved.

A Lysterfield South homeowner called us out with a string of electrical problems. Over two visits, we traced and fixed the lot: a short circuit taking out the upstairs office and power circuits, tracked back to a damaged underground cable feeding an outdoor power point. A faulty batten holder under the house. And an old non-compliant cable joint buried underground in the pump circuit.

On the second visit, we dug down, exposed that joint, and found the cabling badly damaged where it had been joined incorrectly. We cut back the damage and remade it properly with new junction boxes and connectors. While we were there, we also swapped out a faulty oven and got a dropped-out CCTV camera back online (water had got into the data terminal). All tested and verified.

This is why non-compliant work is so dangerous. When a join fails underground, it takes real experience to find it and fix it right.

Garden lights that run themselves.

A client in Upwey wanted their garden lighting automated, so we installed Shelly 1PM Gen3 smart switches behind their existing wall switches. The lights now turn on and off to a schedule, all controlled from the free Shelly app, and the switches even track power usage in real time.

The best part is that the Shelly units hide behind the switches you already have. Ordinary lights become smart lights with nothing new on the wall.
