One of my most favourite tools for creating my loved pieces...

You don't need to buy the expensive ones, just need to know where to get them! I have many of these - some around the 15yr mark I worked out.
I stock them and Catherine at stocks them. - do you have them too?

If you'd like to learn to sew in a fun, supportive environment—with no experience needed, we'd love you to join us :) When you do, you’ll build essential sewing skills and gain confidence at the machine. We'll learn how to:
- Use and troubleshoot your sewing machine
- Understand fabric grain, layout, and cutting
- Sew seams, press, and finish edges
- Use interfacing, handle curves, and apply hems
- Begin constructing a simple garment using industry techniques & more!

Both days combine demonstrations, guided sewing time, and expert support so you can build skills step by step. You’ll go home with your first garment, practical knowledge and the confidence to keep sewing the things you love!

Our next schedule is here. It's a gentler spring over here, giving you the classes you've been asking most for.
As many of you know, classes are kept small to provide a high level of support, with you using your own machine* - and getting to really know what you can achieve it. Many sewing schools don't do this because it takes time out of the lesson to pay attention to and figure out how you can do what we're learning on your own machine!
At The Art of Dressmaking, we're interested and invested in teaching you skills that you can go home with and replicate the same thing, for years to come. It IS a skill that is helpful at any age, and don't let me get started on how satisfying it can be! 🤩

For those of you that are new here, let me re-introduce myself;
Welcome, I’m Mindy!
I run The Art of Dressmaking here on the mid north coast – helping you learn how to sew the things you love and light you up.

You might say that fashion has always been a part of my life. I grew up with my nanna sewing my barbie doll clothes as a child and Mum used to create my designs when I was in high school. I dived in closer by being in front of the camera, modelling from the age of 15.

When I completed my BA in Sydney, I realised I actually wanted to STUDY fashion, and so to Brisbane I went, studying at what’s now TAFE QLD’s fashion precinct. I immersed myself in my course and loved it so much that I gained many skills that I still use today.

I then spent the next 20 years in the industry in women’s ready to wear fashion production and bespoke creation. I’ve worked for red-carpet gown fashion houses and on garments that have graced the world stage and I love everything to do with creating beautiful garments that make their wearers feel their best.

I can’t believe it’s been that long already! I feel more passionate than ever about creating beautiful pieces in a more sustainable way, helping women feel good about themselves through learning about their own style and what makes them look and feel good, as well as using colour to enhance our wellbeing.

I’m enjoying this beautiful journey and I feel blessed to have been passing my knowledge and skills on for the last two years to each and every one of you that have attended my classes.
I know there’s so much more to come and look forward to sharing it with you 💙 🩷

Across this coming weekend workshop, I’ll show you how to take a simple commercial pattern and alter it to your own measurements - before you cut. You’ll have a well-fitting pattern; without lengthy testing needed!! We'll also have plenty to time to work on a project of your own with my complete support, giving you valuable skills and knowledge to take home with you.
