The Rainforest School and Mission Beach Boomerang Bags are working on a joint project with the Department of Environment and Science and the Yarrabah Art Centre. We are sewing 80 bags for the launch of a new Waste Transfer Station in Yarrabah.
Aunty Philomena Yeatman, a Gunggandji woman, has screen-printed "The Ripple Effect", a beautiful design that represents that water is life, we all need to care for country, each person can make a difference and this difference can have a ripple effect'.
The design has been printed in three colours; blue to represent the ocean, green for the rainforest and red to raise awareness to care for country and be mindful of your waste. These fabrics are being paired with upcycled boomerang bags.
We are looking for people to help us by donating fabric and volunteers to iron and sew. Please get in touch if you would like to get involved. All welcome!
Our next sewing bee is on Saturday the 22nd of July from 9am to midday at The Rainforest School, 18 South Maria Creek Close, Maria Creeks.
