Still deciding on your Father's Day activity?

If you're after something that's simple to prepare, easy for children to create and guaranteed to be treasured, personalised ceramic mugs continue to be one of our most popular Father's Day keepsakes.

Children can draw directly onto the mug using ceramic paint markers, creating a one-of-a-kind gift for a dad, grandparent, carer or another special person in their life.

Once their masterpiece is finished, simply cure it in a standard household oven to make the artwork permanent. No paint brushes, no messy sealers and no waiting days for paint to dry.

Our personalised ceramic mugs continue to be one of our most popular Father's Day keepsakes. With Father's Day fast approaching, they're already proving incredibly popular, so we recommend ordering early to avoid missing out.

❤️ The best resources often begin with a conversation.

Over the past year, we've spent countless hours talking with educators and visiting early learning services across Australia. One message has come through loud and clear: supporting children's wellbeing and safety has never been more important.

While policies, procedures and compliance all play an important role, many educators have shared that they also want resources that help children understand their feelings, recognise safe and unsafe situations, ask questions and find the confidence to use their voice.

That's why we've expanded our collection of educator resources.

These are books designed to be read with children. Through engaging stories, thoughtful illustrations and educator guidance, they help introduce important life concepts in age-appropriate ways, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations about safety, emotions, relationships, resilience and understanding the world around them.

Because helping children recognise what feels right, speak up when something doesn't, and know they will be listened to is one of the most valuable lessons we can support together.

💡 Resources Educators Are Loving Right Now

Over the past few weeks, one thing has become clear...

Many of the conversations our Customer Solutions team have been having with educators are about light play and inquiry resources.

Whether it's finding the right projector, choosing a light table, understanding the difference between colour paddles, or exploring translucent construction materials, centres are looking for simple ways to inspire curiosity and investigation.

These aren't just beautiful resources, they encourage children to slow down, observe, experiment and think differently.

The best part?
One resource can be explored in countless ways, evolving with the children's interests and ideas. Rather than directing the learning, they invite children to become investigators.

If you've been curious about incorporating light play into your learning environment, our friendly Customer Solutions team is always happy to help you find the right fit for your centre.

How many of The Very Hungry Caterpillar's foods can you still recite from memory?

There's something special about the stories we return to again and again. Long after we've forgotten where we first heard them, we still remember the rhythm of the words, the excitement of turning the page and the joy of sharing them with someone else.

For young children, these familiar stories become so much more than books. They build language through repetition, encourage prediction and retelling, and inspire dramatic play as favourite characters come to life. Whether it's stepping into the Gruffalo's deep dark wood or transforming into a hungry caterpillar, stories often become the starting point for imaginative learning that continues well beyond reading time.

As Book Week approaches, it's a lovely reminder that the books we treasure don't just create lasting childhood memories, they help create them for the next generation too.

📚 Which book instantly takes you back to your own childhood? We'd love to hear the one story you'll never forget.

🔍 Curiosity begins with a question.

One of the greatest gifts we can give young children is the confidence to ask why?

Nonfiction books invite children to explore the world around them through real-life topics that inspire inquiry, observation and discussion. Whether they're discovering how the human body works, exploring remarkable inventions or wondering what lies beyond our planet, these books help children build knowledge while nurturing a lifelong love of learning.

With both Book Week and National Science Week approaching, it's a wonderful opportunity to expand your literacy experiences beyond traditional storybooks. Informational texts naturally encourage children to ask questions, investigate ideas and make meaningful connections between literacy and the world around them.

Sometimes the most powerful stories aren't fictional, they're the ones that help children better understand the incredible world they live in.

Every day is an opportunity for children to think like scientists.

Science in the early years isn't about memorising facts. It begins when children ask "Why?", test their ideas, notice patterns and wonder what might happen next.

Whether they're investigating shadows, watching water flow, mixing colours or observing insects in the garden, they're building skills that extend far beyond science. They're developing curiosity, confidence, critical thinking and persistence.

As educators, you don't need all the answers.

Sometimes the most powerful response is simply...
"What do you think?"

Those moments of shared discovery are often where the deepest learning begins.

How do you encourage scientific thinking in your learning environment?

📚 Preparing for Book Week (22nd - 28th Aug)

As Book Week draws closer, we've been busy behind the scenes preparing our showroom with new books and educator favourites.

Over the past six months, we've expanded our literacy collection by listening to what educators are asking for in their learning environments. From engaging nonfiction titles that spark curiosity, to timeless storybook classics and resources that support meaningful conversations, every addition has been chosen with the needs of children and educators in mind.

Whether you're beginning to plan your Book Week experiences or simply looking to refresh your reading corner, we'd love to help you find books that will continue to inspire long after Book Week has finished.

How accessible are the books in your room?

📚 With Book Week just around the corner, it's a great time to look at how books are displayed in your learning environment.

When books are inviting, accessible and woven into everyday play, children are far more likely to pick one up independently, revisit favourite stories and develop a genuine love of reading.

Our Billy Kidz Reading Island was designed with this in mind.

Its four portable pieces can be rearranged to suit your space and the way your children learn, creating everything from a cosy reading nook to a collaborative storytelling space or a quiet breakout area.

Some of the features educators tell us they love:
• Child-height seating and book display that encourages independent access.
• Flexible configuration to adapt as your room changes throughout the day.
• Built-in storage underneath, perfect for books, puppets, storytelling props or dress-ups to extend literacy experiences.
• Durable, easy-clean cushions designed for busy early learning environments.

As you prepare for Book Week, it might be the perfect opportunity to ask:

How easy is it for children to discover, choose and enjoy books every day, not just during Book Week?

Sometimes the most valuable conversations happen away from the day-to-day.

Last Friday we had the pleasure of welcoming Only About Children Early Learning to our showroom. Throughout the day there were questions, discussions, ideas shared and plenty of moments where one person's experience sparked another's thinking.

Discussions about how we can step outside of our own room and support each other to bring provocations outside sparked ideas for working collaboratively during team meetings and workshops. By inviting educators to create a provocation in another team's space, then build on someone else's ideas, we encourage fresh thinking, share perspectives across age groups and help break the cycle of relying on the same familiar resources and setups.

Creating inspiring learning environments isn't just about the resources we choose. It's about taking the time to explore, reflect and learn from one another.

Thank you for spending your day with us. We hope you left feeling inspired and full of ideas to take back to your teams.
