Offering recreation garments based on surviving historical representations (extant examples), I aim to create pieces which reflect meaning and authenticity from whence they came.

Femme Doublets

While I've tried to search through catalogues for extant examples, all I've turned up are patterns for femme doublets. This suggests it wasn't just masculine individuals who donned the stereotypical outer layer.

The below image is a recreation Elizabethan doublet. The style reflects similar seen in masculine doublets from earlier periods.

The Waffenrock!
Historically, a masc garment, it was worn by Landsknecht soldiers in the 16th century. I love this garment because to our modern perceptions, it breaks the gender norm from silhouettes we most associate with.

Additionally, it was commonplace to wear shirts with frills and lace underneath.

Most will know but some may not:
I'm non-binary (my pronouns are she/ they) and pansexual. I'm also a fierce advocate for ensuring every person is able to feel comfortable and at home in their community.

I am blessed to be surrounded by so many q***r folx* who have been my biggest support. Operating Extant Examples Couture let's me unearth a lot of history depicting a stark contrast to how we perceive fashion today. It is my mission to bring this to light.

To showcase Pride Month and celebrate the incredible diversity of historic fashion- it is my mission to share as many "gender norm" breaking pieces as possible. If you know any- I'd love to see them!
