Cold night = pile on more layers? Not necessarily.
When dressing a baby for winter sleep, start with the room they are actually sleeping in—not the temperature outside.
A few helpful reminders:
• Choose light, breathable layers that are easy to adjust.
• Keep baby’s head and face uncovered for sleep—no beanies, hats or hoods.
• If using a sleeping bag, check that it fits around the neck and armholes, has no hood, and follow the manufacturer’s TOG guide.
• Stop wrapping as soon as baby shows signs of rolling.
• Check baby’s chest or upper back. If they feel hot, sweaty or clammy, remove a layer and check again.
There is no single magic nursery temperature that suits every home and every baby. The aim is comfortably warm—not hot.
